Get to work, (stray) cats!

August 30, 2019

Washington, DC has put into place a novel approach to rat infestation which relies on the instincts of stray cats. In 2017, the District of Columbia’s Humane Rescue Alliance launched Blue Collar Cats, a program which proposes the services of stray cats (who are not social enough to live indoors) as an alternative solution to traps and toxic products for rodent infestation. In parks, residential neighbourhoods and some companies, mini squadrons of cats are now standing guard to ensure the safety of the city’s residents. Could a similar approach in Chicago have helped spare Amber and her family the ordeal that they lived through? It’s a creative, all-natural initiative which may help inspire similar tactics here in Canada. (Pawsie)
