Everything's cat-fabulous at meowfest

July 5, 2019

Step aside canines, tomorrow cats will get their day in the limelight at meowfest in Toronto's Evergreen Brick Works.

On July 6, meowfest will be laying out an outstanding day of shopping, speakers, presentations, celebrity cats, cats for adoption, food trucks, and entertainment.

A global celebration for cat lovers, the feline-focused festival kicked off its first edition last year in British Columbia, raising $10,000 for the BC SPCA, Langley Animal Protection Society, New Westminster Animal Shelter and The Pet Education Project. The organizers are continuing the charitable tradition with this year's event in Ontario.

“The goal of meowfest,” according to event manager Sarita Fichtner, “is to raise funds and awareness of feline rescue, fostering and adoption, all while having a fabulous time and connecting the online cat community together, offline.” Proceeds from meowfest will be donated to Toronto Cat Rescue.

Throughout the day enjoy meet-and-greets with various celebrity kitties, including Instagram and YouTube stars Venus the two-faced cat (half back and half orange); Nala Cat, a Siamese/Tabby mix; Pudge of DIY crafting fame; Merlin the Mad Ragdoll who seems permanently angry; and Mister Puffles, an advocate against animal cruelty.

Why cats?

“Our team members love all animals,” says Fichtner, “but we have a special place in our hearts for cats. We're all cat owners, have 2 office kitties and foster cats and kittens from local shelters, when possible. Cats are so unique, hilarious, extremely intelligent and relatable.”

OK, Toronto cat-lovers. Get ready for a day of pretty paws and purrs in the GTA!
